The SIR visa has been specifically designed to attract migrants who have the skills and work experience in occupations that have been recognised as being in demand (eg: accountants, chefs, electricians, hairdressers, mechanics, nurses, plumbers and welders) who are prepared to live and work in regional australia (eg: tasmania)

The SIR visa will provide three (3) year temporary residence. After two (2) years, applicants will be able to apply for permanent residency.
In order to qualify the applicant must:
- be under 45
- have at least "vocational" English
- nominate an occupation on the skilled occupations list
- meet the skills assessment requirements
- have recent work experience in a skilled occupation OR
- have recently completed an Australian qualification
- reach the 'points test' passmark of 110
Please note that SIR visa applications will receive priority processing through the Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre.
